About Me

Bonjour! My name is Sylvie Whittaker and I am a qualified French tutor with over 12 years experience in tutoring French to students from Year 7 to Year 13, as well as conversational French for adults.

After graduating from the University of Toulouse (France) with a first class degree in Languages & Business, I spent several years working in fashion merchandising before settling down in Richmond Borough to start a family. I’ve now lived in the area for over two decades and have been offering private French tuition and conversation classes to students across Twickenham, Teddington, Kingston and Richmond for the last 12 years.

As a French national who is fluent in English, I am perfectly placed to help students of all ages and abilities improve their spoken, listening and writing skills in French. My tutoring sessions are interactive and I provide a wide variety of audiovisual materials to support my students’ knowledge and application of grammar and vocabulary.

I run my one-to-one French tutoring sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 3pm and 7pm. I tailor each session to meet the specific goals and needs of each of my students, whether it’s to improve their knowledge of French grammar or to practice their listening and speaking skills. I provide all my students with homework to complete ahead of each lesson, which typically take place on a weekly basis, but I can also offer students bi-weekly lessons or multiple lessons per week during exam season. I am also CRB checked.

I also hold weekly French conversational classes for adults on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 10am and 13:00pm. Each conversational class lasts 1h15mins and provides a great opportunity for people to practice their spoken French, learn about French culture & current events and socialise with people in the local area.
